WHAT IS FLIGHTSHIELD

Flight Shield is an Aerospace Company that offers the industries finest paint revitalization processes and protective coatings that greatly enhance and protect aircraft across the Nation and Globe. Our coatings greatly extend or completely eliminate the need for aircraft repainting. Enhance and Maximize Aircraft Appearance even on newly painted aircraft. Protect Aircraft paint from contaminates, Eliminates oxidation and fading of paint. Decrease downtime for painting and cleanings.

OUR PROTECTIVE COATINGS

  • Flight Shield Sapphire V1 Nano Ceramic Coating is the newest and most technologically advanced protective coating available to the aerospace industry. It offers all of the protective characteristics of our original Reactive Polymer but lasts twice as long and is 9H hard to provide greatly improved scratch resistance.

  • Flight Shield Reactive Polymer is our original high-performance protective coating. It is designed to prolong the life, protect and enhance the appearance of painted surfaces. The coating’s protective characteristics and durability last approximately 12 to 18 months before needing to be reapplied.

  • The protective coatings are crystal clear and greatly increase the gloss and finish of the paint. The coatings provide a protective barrier from harmful contaminates that oxidize and fade paint.

  • Flight Shield coatings are not a wax. They are a long lasting clear protective coating that bond to the painted surface, greatly extending the life of the paint and reducing the need for washing and cleaning.

  • Flight Shield coatings add an additional layer of depth to the topcoat of all painted substrates and protects from harmful contaminates such as chemicals, climate extremes, UV rays, deicing fluid, exhaust staining, salt exposure, dirt and insect deposits and much more.

ADVANTAGES OF FLIGHTSHIELD

PAINT PROTECTION

FlightShield coatings protect aircraft paint by providing a barrier to harmful things like climate extremes, UV rays, deicing fluid, dirt and bugs. The coatings cure and bond to the painted surface creating a long lasing and durable finish.

PAINT LIFE EXTENSION
FlightShield extends the life of aircraft paint by repelling harmful contaminants that would otherwise degrade it; giving your paint the longest life possible.

PAINT REVITALIZATION
Flight Shield's paint revitalization process removes oxidation and contaminants to restore the aircraft's appearance while eliminating the high cost of repainting. Aircraft that are treated with FlightShield coatings can expect to extend the life of the paint by double or more! REDUCED CLEANING EXPENSE
FlightShield reduces cleaning expenses by repelling contaminants like dirt, oil, exhaust stains, deicing fluid and bugs. Simply put, the aircraft will stay cleaner for longer and thereby reduce cleaning costs.

OPTIMIZED PERFORMANCE
FlightShield optimizes aircraft performance by improving laminar flow, reducing coefficient of friction and by keeping the aircraft cleaner which in turn reduces drag.

MAXIMIZED APPEARANCE
FlightShield maximizes aircraft appearance by removing oxidation, contaminants and greatly improving gloss levels, even on newly painted aircraft.

                                                                                                                                                ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
FlightShield is better for the environment because it saves water by reducing the number of cleanings by half.  It also reduces the amount of pollutants that could enter waterways from washing by keeping the aircraft cleaner for longer. Furthermore, Aircraft Operators who use Flight Shield's dry-wash system completely eliminate the need for water to keep their aircraft clean.

FLIGHTSHIELD PRODUCTS

SOLO -1 STEP POLISHING COMPOUND

Unlike other polishing systems, our revolutionary single step polish and paint correction compound eliminates the need for multiple abrasives to revitalize and correct paint. Solo easily removes oxidization, micro scratches, embedded dirt and stains to revitalize the painted surface prior to the Flight Shield coating being applied. The Solo polishing step is typically not required on new or freshly painted aircraft. However, if the paint has oxidized or degraded, this polishing step must be done prior to the application of any Flight Shield coating to achieve maximum results.

FLIGHTSHIELD REACTIVE POLYMER COATING

Once the polymer bottle is opened the formulation will start to react with moisture (humidity) in the air. When fully cured, after approximately 12 hours, Flight Shield polymer will have produced a high gloss, protective coating to the painted surface.

SAPPHIRE V1 NANO CERAMIC COATING

Sapphire V1 is a nano ceramic protective coating. Use caution when opening as the product can erupt if shaken vigorously. Open like a soda bottle by loosing the cap slowly to allow pressure to vent. Replace the cap after use as the product will harden over time when exposed to air.  Sapphire V1 will cure quickly once applied to a surface so be mindful of streaks or runs. Once cured the coating provides the best protection available in the industry with 9H hardness and high temp resistance.

POSTFLIGHT CLEANER & DETAILER

Post Flight is used to clean surfaces treated with Flight Shield Polymer or Sapphire V1 when the aircraft gets dirty.

PRODUCT APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Important Note Before Getting Started-

Please identify, photograph and report any damage to aircraft or trouble areas in paint such as overspray, extreme oxidization, crazing, heavy staining, chips, cracks, etc. to the owner/operator of the aircraft before getting started. Any discrepancies should also be reported in the “notes” section of the registration form. Protect any sensitive areas such as static ports or static wicks, antennas, pitot tubes, AOA indicators, etc. as Flight Shield Products should not come in contact with these areas.

SOLO -1 STEP POLISHING COMPOUND

  1. Clean the painted surfaces to be polished.

  2. Determine which polishing method will best suit the need. Solo Polishing Compound can be incorporated in most polishing methods; by rotary buffer, orbital polisher or by hand. We recommend starting easy and adjusting your method accordingly.

  3. If polishing by machine select a buffing/polishing pad.  There are a number of suitable options; which include wool, blended wool and polyester, cotton, microfiber and foam pads. Whichever you choose, error on the side of caution to avoid over working the surface or overheating the paint. Unlike other polishing compounds, Solo will remove heavy oxidation and clean the paint to reveal the ultimate finish without having to down step with different compounds or scratching the surface.

  4. Using an applicator pad, apply a thin layer of Solo Polishing Compound to the surface. We recommend a 3 ft. by 3 ft. section or smaller.

  5. Using the machine, work the product as you would with any other buffing/polishing compound. Please note that rotary buffers are typically more aggressive than orbital polishers. You may find that there are swirls or halos in the surface when using rotary machines; especially when combined with heavier “cut” pads like wool and or higher speeds. If this occurs, consider using a softer pad and orbital polisher with the Solo Polishing Compound to correct these imperfections.

FLIGHTSHIELD REACTIVE POLYMER APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Important Note Prior to Applying Flight Shield Polymer-

The painted surface needs to be in a like new condition, without dust, fuel, grease, grime, salt, wax and silicone residues. The surface must also be thoroughly clean.

  1. Shake the bottle before applying Flight Shield Polymer. Flight Shield Polymer will have a noticeable change in viscosity at variant temperatures and may not flow from the bottle during cooler temperatures. This can be resolved by lightly warming the bottles with a hair dryer or storing the bottles in an area 72 degrees F. or warmer.

  2. Using a hand applicator pad, apply a thin and even layer of Flight Shield Polymer to the surface. We recommend a 5 ft. by 5 ft. section or smaller.

  3. Using an orbital polisher and a clean foam pad or terry cloth bonnet, work the product in both directions (left and right) and in the perpendicular up-and down pattern ensuring that every part of the surface has been worked evenly from every direction. The product will not haze up like a traditional wax and will stay slightly fluid and wet on the surface. This is normal as the curing process takes place.

  4. Remove residue of the product with a microfiber bonnet placed on the orbital polisher. If residue still persists then hand wipe the area with a clean microfiber using a circular motion.

  5. Repeat the above steps for the next section of the aircraft while slightly overlapping the previous section to ensure complete coverage.

  6. Verify that no product residue is left on the surface. The coating will continue to cure over the next 12 hours. Avoid flying the aircraft or getting the aircraft wet for at least 12 hours after the application.

FLIGHTSHIELD SAPPHIRE V1 CERAMIC COATING APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Important Note Prior to Applying Sapphire V1-

The painted surface needs to be in a like new condition, without dust, fuel, grease, grime, salt, wax and silicone residues. The surface must also be thoroughly cleaned.

  1. Roll the bottle to mix.  Do not Shake.

  2. Using the supplied applicator block and application cloth, saturate the application cloth and apply a thin and even layer of product to the surface. The surface should be wet and uniform but not so wet where the product is running or dripping. We recommend a 5 ft. by 5 ft. section or smaller.

  3. Allow the product to sit and cure to the surface for approximately 1 to 2 minutes. Using a clean microfiber towel check the surface tension and tackiness of the product. The product should be left to cure enough and resist the cloth while hand buffing. Once the proper cure time has been identified, feel free to continue to hand buff or use an orbital buffer at low speed to remove excess product until the surface is smooth uniform and glossy.

  4. Repeat the above steps for the next section of the aircraft while slightly overlapping the previous section to ensure complete coverage.

  5. Verify that no product residue is left on the surface. The coating will continue to cure over the next 8 hours. Avoid flying the aircraft or getting the aircraft wet for at least 8 hours after the application.

**If the product has cured to the surface and is streaking or difficult to remove, re-wet the area with fresh product as soon as possible. If the product has fully cured, it can be difficult to remove, and that area will need to be buffed using a course compound to remove the coating.

POST FLIGHT CLEANER

Post Flight is a dry-wash cleaner is the easiest way to clean and maintain surfaces treated with Flight Shield. Whenever the aircraft gets dirty, the product is sprayed on the surface with a simple hand spray bottle and wiped dry with a microfiber towel. The product cleans and shines the surface with minimal effort.

WE'RE HERE TO HELP

Please contact us with any application questions prior to applying our coatings. Once the coatings are cured, they become difficult to remove.
